Meghan McCain is honoring the memory of her brother Douglas McCain following his sudden death at age 66. On May 24, the View alum shared an emotional tribute on X to the eldest son of late Senator John McCain.

"I am deeply saddened to share the news of my brother Doug McCain's sudden passing," Meghan wrote on X. "He was a truly wonderful, joyful man who supported me throughout my life. He brought humor, fun and great conversation to every room. I will cherish our memories together."

She extended her condolences to Doug's family: "Our prayers are with his wife Ashley and children Caroline and Shepp."

Doug died suddenly on May 20, according to his online obituary. The former Navy pilot trained to fly A-6 Intruders and had a long tenure with American Airlines, where he became a captain. He grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from the University of Virginia in 1982 with a degree in Systems Engineering.

John McCain's blended household included Doug, the eldest child from his first marriage to Carol Shepp, alongside siblings Andrew, 64, and Sidney, 59. From his marriage to Cindy McCain came Meghan, 41, John McCain IV, 39, James McCain, 37, and Bridget McCain, 34.

In a 2018 documentary, "John McCain: For Whom The Bell Tolls," Doug discussed navigating those family relationships. "It was just different, it took some time getting used to," he reflected. "I'm not extraordinarily close, but if I ever need something, I know how to reach them."

His obituary described a man defined by loyalty and love. "Doug will be remembered for his generous heart, his loyal friendships, and his unwavering love for his family," it read. "He will be dearly missed by those close to him."

Doug was a grandfather to his grandson Teddy.
