Ong Seong Wu is set to play a hotel CEO hiding dark ambitions behind a gentle facade. The K-drama star has been cast as Ma Gang Wook, whose true intentions remain concealed beneath an outwardly pleasant demeanor.
TVN's upcoming occult romance "Spooky in Love" is a remake of the 2011 film "Spellbound." The drama pairs Seong Wu with Park Eun Bin, who plays Cheon Yeo Ri—a hotel heiress with the ability to see ghosts.
While Eun Bin's character can see the supernatural, Seong Wu's CEO character operates his own hidden agenda. The contrast between the two creates tension: one literally reads the invisible world, the other conceals his true intentions in the visible one.
This marks a shift for Seong Wu, best known for his Produce 101 days and lighter romantic roles. Playing a morally gray character with dark ambitions demonstrates his range as he moves toward more complex leading roles in K-drama.
The occult romance genre has gained traction in Korean television. Adding a brooding CEO with questionable motives to the formula draws speculation from fans about how his character's hidden side will be exposed and what role his ghost-seeing hotel heiress counterpart will play in uncovering the truth.
"Spooky in Love" has not announced an air date yet. Based on the character description, K-drama viewers are already anticipating Ong Seong Wu's transformation into a morally complex role.
