India Overtakes Japan as World's Third-Largest Solar Power Producer
India achieved a milestone in its energy transition by surpassing Japan to become the world's third-largest solar electricity producer, generating 108,494 GWh in 2025-26. The achievement comes as renewables crossed 50% of India's total installed capacity, reaching the COP26 target five years ahead of schedule.
