Aditya Jayaprakash's Blacksmith joined Silicon Valley's most exclusive club, and it did it in record time. According to TechCrunch, the AI code-testing platform announced a $66 million Series C round led by Sequoia that values the company at $1 billion, making it an official unicorn.

The speed is remarkable. Blacksmith went from $550 million valuation to $1 billion in two months, a $450 million jump after its Series B in August. A year ago the company was valued at just $60 million. This is exponential growth.

Jayaprakash and co. are solving a real problem for enterprises managing AI-generated code. As AI writes more software, companies need faster, smarter ways to test and validate it before deployment. Continuous integration, the automated process of building, testing, and merging code changes, has become a bottleneck. Most companies cannot keep up with the volume of code checks needed.

Here's why investors are focused: Blacksmith has run over 90 million CI jobs and boasts 17x annual recurring revenue growth. Customers include Mercury and Granola, signaling real traction. The company has now raised $125 million total.

But this valuation jump reflects where VC money is actually flowing in 2026. The real opportunity is in AI infrastructure. Companies that make it easier, faster, and safer to deploy AI-written code are the essential infrastructure plays of this cycle. Sequoia clearly sees Blacksmith as a category-defining platform that will command a higher valuation once enterprises fully embrace AI-assisted development.

The question now: can Blacksmith stay ahead of competitors, or will the next unicorn in this space arrive even faster?
