Alanis Morissette is in her holiday era. According to Rolling Stone, the alt-rock legend has announced her first-ever full-length holiday album, Good Weather for Immaculate Conception, arriving November 6. The guest list includes Brandi Carlile, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Joy Oladokun, Amythyst Kiah, and the UK's Trans Voices choir.
The 14-track collection includes two original holiday songs: "Christmas on the Dance Floor" and "To an Empath at Christmas Time." Morissette recorded "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" with Carlile and Martin, which dropped today. The album also features comedian Martin Short, soul artist Joy Oladokun, country-folk star Amythyst Kiah, and the UK's Trans Voices choir on various tracks.
The album mixes sacred standards, "O Holy Night," "Ave Maria," "Little Drummer Boy", with modern covers. Joni Mitchell's "River" and Wham!'s "Last Christmas" sit alongside traditional material, showing Morissette's willingness to blend genres on a holiday record.
Morissette's move to a full holiday album reflects her recent momentum. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame earlier this year, appeared at Olivia Rodrigo's Daisy Chain Fields festival, and sang the Canadian national anthem at the World Cup opening ceremony. The album capitalizes on this period without feeling like a commercial grab. The collaborations with Carlile and Martin Short signal serious production value and cross-genre appeal.
Starting November 5, Morissette will play her Los Angeles YouTube Theater residency, where fans may hear holiday material and get behind-the-scenes updates on the album.
