The good news for Cross fans? According to creator Ben Watkins, Prime Video's hit drama could keep running indefinitely.
"This show can go forever," Watkins said. The showrunner has big plans for Season 3, which is already in production.
This time around, Aldis Hodge's detective Alex Cross confronts something far more personal than any killer: himself. The new season explores addiction through the lens of Cross' relentless, obsessive pursuit of justice.
"We need to see this character confronting a different challenge about himself and the people around him," Watkins explained. Alex is about to face consequences in ways fans haven't seen before.
Rather than chasing external threats, Cross will grapple with the internal demons that fuel his detective work—the compulsion, the tunnel vision, the cost to everyone he loves.
For Hodge, it is character work that engages an actor. Playing a protagonist unraveling under the weight of his own obsession offers layers most procedurals do not explore.
Watkins' confidence that Cross has runway for years suggests Amazon Studios is betting on the franchise. The show has clearly resonated with audiences, and with James Patterson's decades of source material to draw from, the possibilities are substantial.
Whether Season 3 can sustain that promise remains to be seen—but with a creator this ambitious and a lead actor this committed, there is momentum behind it.
