Anu Malik revealed how his daughter Anmol saved 'Chunari Chunari' from being forgotten.
At the Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai trailer launch in Mumbai on May 23, the composer told the story to attendees including Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and David Dhawan. The film will feature a recreated version of the 1999 Biwi No 1 track.
Malik was vacationing in Goa with his family when the 'Chunari Chunari' melody came to him. He forgot the cassette he'd recorded it on.
"My daughter Anmol was with me," Malik recalled. "I told her, 'Dimaag mein ek tune aa rahi hai aur David ke saath sitting hone waali hai. Will you remember the tune?' She agreed and I sang the 'Chunari Chunari' tune to her. She remembered the tune."
When David Dhawan arrived for the next composition session, Malik called Anmol and asked if she remembered. "She said 'yes' and started singing," Malik revealed. "David heard it and exclaimed, 'Yehi toh gaana chahiye!' So, the song was born out of my daughter's remembrance."
David wanted to record it the next day. "If David likes a song, he wants to record it the next day," Malik said with a laugh.
'Chunari Chunari' became a hit. Malik said every film he has done with David Dhawan is a blockbuster. "Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai will also follow suit," he predicted.
The film hits cinemas June 5.
