The British Film Institute added six names to its board of governors, expanding the executive group to 14 members.
The new governors are Tanya Cordrey, Mark Herbert, Ganan Kanagathurai, Hakan Kousetta, Ryan Prince, and Jane Tranter, who takes the role of Wales Governor.
Each governor serves a defined term. The simultaneous appointment of six new members suggests the BFI intends to expand its reach across the UK film landscape.
Tranter's appointment as Wales Governor indicates the BFI is prioritising regional representation.
BFI governors shape funding priorities, set strategic direction, and decide which projects receive institutional backing. These are substantive roles with real influence over what gets made and celebrated in British film.
The expansion comes as the UK film industry recovers from pandemic disruption and faces competition from global streamers. The BFI is signalling its readiness to support homegrown talent and stories.
