On June 14, the White House South Lawn will host a UFC event. President Donald Trump is combining his 80th birthday celebration with America's 250th anniversary by staging a full card, organized by his longtime associate Dana White.

The event caps a relationship spanning over two decades. Trump and White first worked together in the early 2000s when the then-casino mogul let White host UFC events at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. Trump became a regular cageside observer.

Their connection deepened in 2015 when White took a political step. "When he first called me, he said, 'Listen, if you don't want to do this, I completely understand, but I'd be honored if you'd speak for me at the Republican convention,'" White recalled to Rolling Stone. He introduced Trump at the 2016 Republican National Convention despite warnings from associates.

The idea for a White House event emerged last year when Trump mentioned it while both men were cageside at an event in South Florida. "Everyone has their thing, and Donald Trump's thing is the UFC," White told Rolling Stone. What began as a casual remark became a formal plan as 250th anniversary programming expanded.

The event reflects MMA's position in American culture. UFC has become central to the so-called "manosphere," and with White presenting himself as apolitical while maintaining close ties to the sitting president, the sport sits at the nexus of politics, celebrity, and spectacle.

Rolling Stone will cover the fights live in June.
