Elliot Page isn't holding back about his latest collaboration with Christopher Nolan. According to Rolling Stone, the actor sat down on The Tonight Show to praise The Odyssey. His verdict: "My first reaction, honestly, it was similar to reading the script to Inception," Page told Jimmy Fallon. "I really was just left breathless."
Page described the script as "so complex, so massive, and with this tremendous engine and heart that just kept moving forward." This isn't a conventional historical epic. Nolan has built something architecturally ambitious while maintaining emotional weight—the combination that made Inception resonate.
This is Page and Nolan's second collaboration. "I felt so fortunate to be asked to come back and to be part of something this epic and incredible as this," Page said. "It was just such a gift."
Page's reaction suggests how substantially Nolan has reimagined Homer's ancient epic. Page plays Sinon, an Ithacan soldier. Sinon does appear in Virgil's The Aeneid, indicating Nolan has drawn from deeper sources than most blockbuster adaptations.
Page also praised Nolan's sets as "focused" and his direction as "concise." He mentioned executing practical stunts, including a sequence involving the Trojan Horse that he called "a classic Nolan moment."
If Elliot Page is comparing The Odyssey to Inception, audiences should take note. The film could be significant in an era of franchise fatigue.
