Sheffield DocFest wrapped its 33rd edition today, awarding its Grand Jury Prize to Filthy (also known as Sucia — Per què no vas fer res?), directed by Bàrbara Mestanza and Marc Pujolar.
The Grand Jury Prize win qualifies the documentary for Oscar consideration. Winners of Sheffield's top award automatically enter the Academy's conversation.
The film centres on [...] and has clearly struck a chord with the international jury. In a festival year packed with nonfiction entries, Filthy won the International Competition category.
Sheffield DocFest is the UK's leading nonfiction film festival. A Grand Jury Prize here generates industry attention, festival circuit momentum, and a direct path toward awards season.
With Oscar eligibility now locked in, Filthy is positioned to build momentum through the fall festival circuit and into next year's Academy Awards.
