Mk2 Alt, the French distributor, has acquired European rights to 'Two Sleepy People,' a low-budget American romantic dramedy made by digital creators on a $100,000 budget.
The 90-minute film was made outside traditional Hollywood by a collective of creators who pooled savings and sponsorship money.
Mk2 Alt is positioning the film with comparisons to 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' and 'Severance,' marketed as existential romance with a digital-age sensibility.
The deal represents a test of creator-led cinema at a moment when Hollywood studios have focused on franchise IP and algorithm-friendly content. A group of filmmakers with modest resources produced an original work that attracted major international distribution.
According to Deadline's exclusive report, the move reflects Mk2 Alt's interest in alternative production models and indie films reaching global audiences.
For the creators behind 'Two Sleepy People,' European distribution without studio backing demonstrates that original projects can attract serious industry attention.
