Fresh off streaming success, the creative minds behind Netflix's Academy Award-winning KPop Demon Hunters are making their live-action feature debut — with a cast assembled from across television and film.
According to Deadline, Live Nation Studios has begun production in Southern California on Youth Juice, a horror-comedy starring Gideon Adlon (Euphoria), Luna Blaise (Jurassic World), Simon Rex (Red Rocket), and Jay Hernandez (Magnum P.I.).
Veronica Rodriguez directs her first live-action feature. The screenplay is by Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, who wrote the KPop Demon Hunters screenplay that won Netflix's top award.
Adlon earned critical acclaim for her role in HBO's Euphoria. Blaise has blockbuster experience from the Jurassic World franchise. Rex demonstrated indie credibility in Sean Baker's Red Rocket. Hernandez continues his work following Magnum P.I.
Horror-comedy has become increasingly profitable for studios and streamers. The genre combines scares with laughs in ways audiences respond to. With writers who have already balanced spectacle and storytelling at Netflix's scale, Youth Juice could establish Rodriguez as a director worth tracking.
Production is already underway in Southern California.
