Brazil's streaming service Globoplay has acquired Brazilian rights to the sci-fi series Space Nation and will co-produce it as a Globoplay Original, according to exclusive reporting from Deadline Hollywood.
The eight-part project is being produced by Ex Machina Studios. Veteran producer Marco Weber—who worked on Igby Goes Down—is Ex Machina CEO, alongside co-production partner Utopai Studios.
Globoplay is moving beyond content acquisition to invest in next-generation storytelling methods that use artificial intelligence alongside traditional production techniques.
Streaming services are experimenting with AI-enabled production methods as they develop new approaches to sci-fi content. The AI integration could reduce production timelines or costs, though industry observers remain divided on how substantially the technology will reshape the sector.
For Ex Machina Studios and Utopai, a Globoplay co-production partnership validates their model. Globo's distribution across Latin America gives Space Nation potential reach throughout the region.
How the AI integration functions in practice remains to be seen. Globoplay is betting that producers willing to experiment with the technology will gain competitive advantage in the streaming market.
