House of the Dragon Season 3 kicks off June 21. Emma D'Arcy's exiled Queen Rhaenyra faces an impossible choice: wage all-out war or risk everything for peace.
Season 2 left Rhaenyra in mourning and the kingdom burning. After her son Lucerys was murdered by his uncle Aemond and the dragon Vhagar, she did something unexpected. Rather than attack King's Landing immediately, she sneaked into the capital to negotiate with her childhood best friend turned rival, Alicent Hightower.
The negotiations backfired. Rhaenyra was blamed for the murder of young Prince Jaehaerys, a crime she did not commit. Her uncle and husband Daemon (Matt Smith) killed the boy without her knowledge. When Rhaenyra and Alicent finally met in secret, both women understood the same brutal truth: the war had already begun, and peace was no longer possible.
Rhaenyra's response is clear. She has moved past negotiation. Now she is hunting for more dragonriders, gathering every weapon she can find for the conflict ahead.
Set 200 years before Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon examines whether power in Westeros can be won without massive bloodshed. Season 2 suggested the answer is no. As Rhaenyra stands at the brink of civil war, the toll is mounting: how many Targaryens will die before anyone learns that lesson?
The new episodes premiere Sunday, June 21 on Max.
