Vice President JD Vance's spiritual memoir Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith debuted at Number One. Released Tuesday (June 16), the hardcover reached the top spot on Amazon's political biographies chart and entered the top five on the overall Amazon books chart.

Vance's promotional tour crossed partisan lines. He appeared on Fox & Friends and Hannity, but also accepted an invitation to ABC's The View. He sat down with Megyn Kelly on SiriusXM as well.

Published by Harper, Communion traces Vance's religious journey from Christianity to atheism and back. The book opens with his children asking "Why do we even have to go to church?" during Sunday mornings. Vance addresses his critics in the opening chapter, titled "What's the matter with JD Vance?" — referencing the Christopher Lasch critique that followed him during the 2024 campaign. He acknowledges misspeaking about his religion in past interviews, though remains silent on the administration's public criticism of the Pope.

According to the book's synopsis, Vance writes that his "pursuit of material privileges ultimately led him into a secular wilderness," before returning to faith. He presents religious ritual as binding families and offering hope. In his words: "The story of how I regained my faith only happened because I had lost it to begin with."

Vance closes with: "I ask that you pin the shortcomings of this book on the man who wrote it, [and] not the faith that inspired it."
