Mintive, an enterprise AI agent management platform, has closed an $11 million seed round led by Cowboy Ventures, with additional backing from Coatue, Operator Collective, and Hustle Fund. According to TechCrunch, the angels include Jeff Dean (Google's ex-Chief Scientist), Andrej Karpathy (OpenAI co-founder), and Okta co-founder Frederic Kerrest.

The founding team draws from the core of modern AI infrastructure. Jiquan Ngiam, Mintive's CEO, was employee No. 1 at Coursera (Andrew Ng's hire) before moving to neural networks at Google Brain. Vijay Vasudevan, the CTO, co-created TensorFlow, the machine learning framework that powered the first wave of modern AI. Both built the systems the industry now runs on.

A Crowded Field

Mintive enters a dense competitive space. Amazon, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic all have agent management offerings. Point products range from LangChain to Rippling to New Relic. Y Combinator alone has backed 40+ startups pursuing similar solutions. In markets this saturated, brilliant founders matter, but execution and timing matter more.

Mintive's wager is on simplicity. According to TechCrunch, CEO Ngiam says the platform handles sandboxing, memory management, and access controls so IT teams need not manage them directly. "We have really thought through all the ways this can be done," Ngiam says, "so easy for them to deploy it, that all the complexities are hidden away."

The argument: enterprise AI management should not demand deep technical expertise. That appeals especially when your investors include the people who wrote foundational work on building AI systems. Whether that's sufficient to stand out remains an open question. But when Jeff Dean and Andrej Karpathy back a team, the market pays attention.
