John Lithgow is on top of the world. The veteran actor's Broadway vehicle Giant has recouped its entire $5.6 million capitalization in just 10 weeks, according to an announcement from producers Brian and Dayna Lee, Stephanie Kramer, Nicole Kramer, Josh Fiedler, Robyn Goodman, and Royal Court Theatre.
The four-time Tony-nominated limited engagement is only six weeks into what was planned as a 16-week run, meaning producers are already in profit. Most Broadway shows take months to recoup their initial investment, if they manage it at all.
The production stars Lithgow as scandal-plagued children's author Roald Dahl. For context: an early recoup signals strong box office momentum and word-of-mouth. With six more weeks still scheduled, Giant will continue generating revenue for its producers.
Lithgow, a three-time Tony winner, has proven that his name on a marquee still translates to ticket sales. At 81, he continues to draw audiences to Broadway.
