Julia Jacklin is returning to music. The Australian singer-songwriter has announced The Gem, her first new album in four years, arriving September 25 via 4AD.

The lead single, 'Get Away From Me (I Think I'll Love You Soon)', combines fuzzy guitar riffs and Eighties jangle rock. It's an upbeat rocker that shows Jacklin taking risks on her return.

The Gem is Jacklin's debut on 4AD and her fourth studio album overall, following 2022's Pre Pleasure and 2019's Crushing. She recorded the project in Melbourne with producer Robert Muinos at his Rat Shack Studios, located above a Collingwood bar that inspired the album's title.

In a statement, Jacklin discussed the album's themes. "I want to love and be loved, but I also want to be free," she said. "The tension between those two things has been the central question of my life... The Gem felt like a metaphor for the whole process, because a lot of it did feel like digging. I felt like I was doing it almost in the dark, just trusting I was going to find something."

The album arrives September 25.
