Ken Loach is at Cannes this week with a freshly remastered 4K version of his Spanish Civil War film Land and Freedom, which originally premiered in competition in 1995. Producer Rebecca O'Brien is alongside Loach for tonight's Cinéma de Plage screening, a beachside event. The screening comes two months before the 90th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War.

Land and Freedom tells the story of a young British volunteer who joins an anarchist militia during the Spanish Civil War, exploring themes of idealism, betrayal, and the cost of fighting for your beliefs. The film won the Palme d'Or at the festival.

For a director whose career has been built on unflinching social realism and political conviction, bringing this film back to Cannes after 31 years represents a significant return. The 4K restoration places renewed focus on Loach's examination of the war and its legacies.
