Larry David is returning to television with Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, a new HBO series that opens with David reimagining what would have happened if Thomas Jefferson did not write the first draft of the Declaration of Independence.
The show is being produced by President Barack Obama's Higher Ground Productions banner. The partnership marks David's return to scripted television after years away from the medium following his run on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
The premise centers on the comedy icon, dressed in period-appropriate woolen layers and cravats, exploring alternate historical timelines. David plays the lead role, bringing his characteristic neurotic sensibility to the concept.
According to reporting from Deadline Hollywood, the collaboration between David and the Obama-backed production company brings the former president's media operation into alignment with major comedy talent. HBO is backing the project as one of David's most substantial endeavors in recent years.
