Lewis Pullman is swapping the F/A-18 for a dirt bike.
The Top Gun: Maverick and Thunderbolts* star has signed on to lead Kaitlyn Mikayla's feature directorial debut, Ragamuffin, a coming-of-age motocross drama, according to Deadline.
The project started as Mikayla's short film, which caught the attention of Oscar-nominated producer David Permut at Sundance. Permut is backing the feature-length version under his production company Permut Presentations, alongside producer Alex Astrachan.
For Pullman, this marks another genre shift after his roles in Marvel's Thunderbolts* and Top Gun: Maverick. The actor has become one of Hollywood's most versatile young talents, and a leading role in an indie project with Permut's credentials suggests he is pursuing work beyond blockbusters.
Mikayla's move from short filmmaker to feature director under Permut's backing represents a direct path from Sundance to production. Permut's record—he has produced Oscar-nominated films—carries weight in industry greenlight decisions.
Pre-production is underway. The motocross genre has seen limited recent attention, making this a potentially distinct entry in the indie-drama space.
No release date has been announced. With Permut's background and Pullman's rising profile, Ragamuffin is already drawing festival attention.
