The Love Island family is reeling. James Barker, a producer on the hit reality show since 2020, has died after experiencing a medical emergency while filming in Fiji, ITV America and Peacock confirmed on June 15. He was 40.

Barker started as a story producer and became an executive producer by season four. "James' unimaginable loss has been deeply felt across not just the entire Love Island USA production, but throughout all of ITV and Peacock," a joint statement read.

The networks praised his dedication. "He was a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness, talent, and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him," the statement continued.

Before joining Love Island, Barker worked at Leftfield Pictures starting in 2011, producing Counting Cars, Pawn Stars, and Forged in Fire. He later worked on Queer Eye and Love Island Games.

Just last year, Barker shared his enthusiasm for the franchise on Instagram after season seven premiered in June 2025. "The minute I heard #loveisland was coming to the US, I knew I had to be a part of it," he wrote. "Now, 6 years later, we're doing absurd numbers on @loveislandusa and I love my job more than I ever have."

Beyond reality TV, Barker was also an accomplished DJ. He is survived by his partner, Adam Roth, with whom he shared a passion for music. "Their shared love of music was at the center of the life they built together—both at home and experiencing music all over the world," ITV America and Peacock said.

Love Island USA will honor Barker during its June 16 episode.
