Milo Machado-Graner is the Cannes name to watch.

At 17, this breakout talent has already become a festival fixture. After playing the sight-impaired son in Justine Triet's 2023 Anatomy of a Fall, Machado-Graner returned to the French Riviera the following year with Filmlovers!, Arnaud Desplechin's film about cinema itself.

Now he's back at Cannes closing Critics' Week with Goodbye Cruel World.

"This role took me to a different place," the teenage actor says. The comment suggests a performance that reached deeper than his previous acclaimed work, pushing him into new emotional terrain.

What stands out is not just his early success but his access to auteurs at an age when most teenagers are still organizing their schedules. Triet, Desplechin, and a third major director all gave Machado-Graner substantial roles in ambitious, critically acclaimed projects.

He is not simply getting lucky breaks. He is being sought by some of cinema's most discerning voices.

As the industry watches him navigate his late teens in the spotlight, Machado-Graner appears grounded about his journey. Rather than amplify the accolades, he talks about the craft — how a role transforms you, how it takes you places you did not expect.

By the time he turns 20, Cannes may have a permanent seat for him. Film fans should be paying attention.
