Mukesh Ambani has handed Jio Studios his explicit endorsement. In his latest shareholder letter, the Reliance Industries chairman praised the studio's Dhurandhar franchise, establishing it as Bollywood's dominant force.
Dhurandhar claimed 40%+ of India's entire box office—a market share without precedent. Jio Studios has produced the highest-grossing Indian film three years running: Stree 2 in 2024, Dhurandhar in 2025, and Dhurandhar The Revenge in 2026.
The release strategy was unconventional. The first Dhurandhar opened in December 2025, with its sequel arriving in March 2026. Ambani noted that this approach had no precedent. "Never before in the world, let alone India, had a film franchise been conceived, financed and shot as two parts and released so close to each other," he said.
The first film became the highest-grossing Indian film of all time, sustaining a 15-week theatrical run before the sequel surpassed its numbers.
Jyoti Deshpande, the studio head, built this from the ground up. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Deshpande described her approach: "I don't make films looking at the downside... I always play for the upside."
While other studios limit risk, Deshpande commits fully to each project. That distinction has driven Jio Studios to the industry's top position.
