Japanese broadcaster Nippon TV is restructuring its leadership to pursue international expansion. According to reports, the network is creating a Global Strategy division and appointing Kazuo Takaya, former President of Hulu Japan, to lead it.
Takaya's division will coordinate with Nippon TV's Content Business division on IP development, technology, partnerships, and region-specific strategies. Satoru Hiramatsu is being promoted on the content side.
The move reflects competition from Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+. By separating global expansion strategy from content production, Nippon TV aims to move faster in building an international footprint as demand for Asian content grows.
The restructuring could result in more original Japanese programming distributed globally.
