Paul McCartney performed on Saturday Night Live's season finale, delivering new material and Wings classics. The 83-year-old opened with "Days We Left Behind," the lead single from his forthcoming album The Boys of Dungeon Lane—his first record since 2020's McCartney III. The track draws on his Liverpool childhood and pays homage to late bandmate John Lennon. According to Rolling Stone, McCartney reflected on the song's personal roots.
"It's a lot of memories of Liverpool," he said. "The street I used to live in, Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke, which is quite working class. We didn't have much at all, but it didn't matter because all the people were great."
McCartney's second performance was "Band on the Run," the Grammy-winning title track from Wings' 1973 album. Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith played drums on both songs.
The show then featured a surprise encore. Details on what McCartney performed have not been confirmed.
The Boys of Dungeon Lane is McCartney's 18th solo studio album and was produced by Andrew Watt during breaks from his Got Back tour. The album includes his first duet with Ringo Starr on the track "Home to Us."
