From tribal council to the tech world: Survivor 48 winner Kyle Fraser and castmate Kamilla Karthigesu are launching Paprclip, a goal-tracking app that pairs users for accountability. The pair, whose on-game alliance helped Fraser win $1 million, are now taking that partnership into the startup world.
Paprclip pairs users for accountability, offers randomized daily challenges designed by licensed clinical therapists, and lets people upload short-form progress clips. Users can keep clips private or share them across social media.
Fraser's entrepreneurial push came during a difficult period. While filming Survivor 50, he tore his Achilles in the first immunity challenge. During months of physical therapy, with a pregnant wife at home and a Survivor win behind him, Fraser realized he needed serious accountability.
"There's so many habit trackers and productivity tools, but there's nothing that allows you to really do things together," Fraser told TechCrunch. The litigator credits his Survivor wins and major life achievements to surrounding himself with people who push him.
The app launched on Kickstarter with a $40,000 funding goal. It is a far smaller target than a million-dollar prize, but the founders are banking on the same formula that worked on the island: building an alliance.
