Tay Keith, the Grammy-nominated producer who co-produced Travis Scott's "Sicko Mode," was found dead in his Nashville apartment on Thursday afternoon. He was 29.
According to Rolling Stone, Metro Nashville Police conducted a welfare check at his Martin Street residence and discovered the producer, born Brytavious Chambers. The police statement confirmed no foul play is suspected, with his death remaining unclassified pending autopsy results.
Born September 20, 1996, the Tennessee native was a self-taught beatmaker who started producing at 14. His Southern hip-hop sound drew from the legacy of Three 6 Mafia and 8Ball & MJG.
Tay Keith's breakthrough came at 21 with "Look Alive," a collaboration with Drake and BlocBoy JB that gained traction beyond Memphis. That same year, he co-produced Travis Scott's 2018 hit "Sicko Mode," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song.
He co-produced Eminem's "Not Alike" from Kamikaze, contributed to Beyoncé's Homecoming: The Live Album, and executive produced Sexyy Red's 2024 album Sexyy We Trust, which included "Pound Town" and "SkeeYee."
In a 2022 Rolling Stone interview, Keith reflected on his Memphis roots: "I was born into this shit and raised in this shit. Memphis music is all I listened to and all my family listened to."
Tay Keith's work shaped hip-hop over the past decade, from "Sicko Mode" to recent viral hits.
