The wedding of the century might actually be happening at Madison Square Garden. According to Rolling Stone, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have reportedly rented out the legendary New York arena for a multiday event over July 4 weekend, with sources suggesting an intimate 100-person gathering on July 2 followed by a celebration for roughly 1,000 guests.
While the couple hasn't confirmed the reports, MSG offers distinct advantages: zero windows, underground tunnels for avoiding paparazzi, and substantial security infrastructure. The New York Times reported that a permit was filed to shut down surrounding streets from July 2 through midday July 4.
Swift and Kelce would not be the first major artists to marry inside those walls. In 1974, funk musician Sly Stone married model Kathy Silva during one of his concerts at MSG, performing the ceremony on stage in front of approximately 20,000 fans.
Stone revealed in his 2023 memoir that the idea came to him while speaking with his A&R director: "I could do a gig, get paid, and get married at the same time." He set the date for June 5—a Wednesday—and the planning proceeded with characteristic rock-and-roll spontaneity.
The ceremony featured gold throughout: matching Halston outfits for the bride and groom, a round cake topped with a gold record, models in gold leading the processional. Stone's band rehearsed a wedding-march-style song. Eddie Kendricks opened the show, Stone's mother and niece gave speeches, and Stone himself walked out in sunglasses to marry Silva before thousands of his fans.
The reception continued late into the night at the Waldorf Astoria rooftop lounge.
