Tracee Ellis Ross is making her Broadway debut in Every Brilliant Thing, the one-person play, according to E! Online. She will take over the Hudson Theatre role in July after Daniel Radcliffe and Mariska Hargitay.
Ross expressed both excitement and nervousness about the role in a May 18 Instagram video. "I am so excited, and I am also so nervous, which I think is appropriate," she said. The role is a monologue that directly involves the audience, meaning each performance differs depending on who attends.
"It is a one person show that is also not a solo show, it is a monologue that is told by the actor—which in this case will be me—with the audience," she explained.
Playwright Duncan Macmillan endorsed the casting. "I've been a fan of Tracee's work for a long time and knew her quick-wit, intelligence and emotional depth would be the perfect fit for Every Brilliant Thing," he said in a statement. "We are beyond thrilled that she has chosen to make her Broadway debut with us this summer."
Reese Witherspoon and Sheinelle Jones responded to the announcement on social media. Witherspoon wrote, "WHAT??!!! This is the GREATEST news ever," while Jones posted celebratory emojis and "Yay!!!!!!!"
Ross's run begins on July 7. Radcliffe, who earned a Tony nomination for the role, recently performed in the play.
