Donald Trump is taking his obsession with golf to the nation's capital. The president announced Sunday that he'll oversee a major renovation of the East Potomac Golf Links, a public course in Washington D.C., according to Rolling Stone.

Trump claims the course is "old and run down," describing it as "dilapidated" and "very dangerous." He toured the property with renowned course architect Tom Fazio and Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgess to plan what could be one of his most ambitious renovation projects.

"We will build one of the Greatest Golf Courses anywhere in the World which, importantly, will also be made available to the Public," Trump declared on Truth Social. The president claims the revamped course will be capable of hosting the U.S. Open, the Ryder Cup, and the PGA Championship.

The Department of the Interior is currently locked in a federal lawsuit over Trump's unilateral termination of long-term leases held by the National Links Trust, a nonprofit that manages public golf courses across the country. That dispute disrupted an ongoing renovation at Rock Creek Park Golf and wiped out over $8 million in improvements already invested in the region's courses.

Groundbreaking is slated for September 1. The actual cost of the Potomac Links overhaul remains undisclosed. PGA-tournament-standard facilities typically carry substantial price tags, though the president has not released project budget details.

The timing coincides with America's 250th anniversary. Ahead of Independence Day, Trump has directed government resources toward renovation projects throughout D.C., including statue gilding and fountain repairs. The golf course renovation is the latest addition to that spending.
