Claude Guillemot, co-founder of Assassin's Creed maker Ubisoft, has died in a plane crash in France. Guillemot was piloting a Cessna 421 twin engine plane when it crashed Friday evening near La Baule, a beach resort in Western France.

Guillemot was one of five brothers who built Ubisoft into a gaming company responsible for franchises including Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Splinter Cell.

French media first reported the tragedy. Details surrounding the crash remain under investigation, but authorities confirmed the incident occurred near the aerodrome of the coastal resort.

The gaming community and Ubisoft staff are expected to issue statements in the coming days as details continue to emerge about the incident.
