Heading to a World Cup match this summer? Better leave your designer clutch at home — or at least know the rules before you show up at the gates.
FIFA has introduced a strict clear bag policy for the 2026 World Cup. According to Rolling Stone's breakdown of the official rules, only clear plastic, vinyl, or see-through PVC bags will be allowed into the stadiums, with a maximum size of 12 x 12 x 6 inches. FIFA says the policy is for "maintaining a safe and efficient entry process" — security needs to see what you're bringing through the gates.
What About Your Precious Small Purse?
Fans are permitted to bring a small clutch or purse into stadiums that doesn't have to be clear, but there's a catch. Your non-transparent bag must be under 4.5 x 6.5 inches. Anything larger and you'll be checking it into a locker before entry.
For context, an iPhone 17 Pro Max is 6.9 inches — so your phone won't fit in an approved small purse. You'll need to get creative.
The Lanyard Life Is Real
The smartest option is to ditch the bag entirely and use a phone lanyard that clips directly to your device. One recent F1 race attendee reported getting through security in seconds with a simple "Clip and Go" strap.
If you're shopping to comply, Amazon and Adidas both offer World Cup-approved clear bags. The Adidas officially-licensed option features zippered compartments and adjustable straps for crossbody wear.
Plan ahead, measure twice, and skip the oversized clutch.
