Alan Bersten and Emma Slater didn't need a choreographed routine to fall in love—they just needed to finally ask themselves the question that changed everything.
The Dancing With the Stars pros spoke candidly at the 33rd Annual Race to Erase MS Gala on June 5, revealing the exact moment their friendship shifted into something deeper. "It's one of those things where you just look and you're like, 'Why haven't we?'" Alan told E! News in a joint interview with Emma. "And then it's just been so special."
Emma joked that it was her "cha-cha moves" that finally caught Alan's attention. The real reason was years of built-in chemistry. "We've always been really good friends, and now we have a great relationship. It feels really good," Emma said.
The couple recently wrapped the DWTS tour and are making their relationship work despite packed schedules. Between travelling and performing, they find time for dinners, exploring new cities, and quality time with their dog Jeff.
Emma, 37, posted a birthday tribute to Alan, 32, on May 26, writing: "You are a pure soul and my favorite thing to do is to laugh with you. I hope we get to do more of that throughout our lives together."
It's been a year since they made their romance official with an onstage kiss during the DWTS live tour finale. Emma made it clear she's staying with the show. "I am with this show for as long as I can," she told E! News. "It's made me who I am... I'm very, very happy here and I have no plans to retire from this show."
The couple is proving they're in it for the long haul.
