Canada opened its World Cup with a star-studded ceremony in Toronto on Friday. Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, and Alessia Cara led the opening ceremony, which celebrated Canadian music and culture.

Alessia Cara opened the show emerging from a giant gold-outlined soccer ball while performing Wild Things from her 2016 debut. She was backed by more than two dozen dancers waving Canadian flags and hoisting art pieces celebrating the country's wildlife.

Nora Fatehi, DJ Sanjoy, and rapper Vegedream performed Siir from the official FIFA World Cup 2026 album. Elyanna and Jessie Reyez followed with Illuminate. Alanis Morissette then sang the Canadian national anthem, O Canada.

Michael Bublé took the stage with the Sole Power Choir for a cover of Sam Cooke's Bring It On Home to Me.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement: "The opening ceremony in Toronto will be a powerful reflection of Canada's identity. It is a moment of pride, unity and anticipation as Canada takes its place on football's biggest stage."

Canada then faced Bosnia and Herzegovina.
