BBC Studios has created a new global formats role and is relocating Karl Warner to L.A. to head it up. The move signals the company's commitment to scaling creator-led IP for television.
Warner's new position is EVP, Global Creator Partnerships & Creative Development, according to Deadline. He will identify, partner with, and scale creator-led IP for global television formats.
The newly-created position reflects BBC Studios' strategy to build deeper relationships with creators as production companies compete to secure emerging voices in entertainment. By placing Warner on the West Coast, BBC positions itself in the center of digital content creation.
Warner will report to the L.A. office and is expected to develop the formats and creative partnerships that shape BBC's next phase in global television. The executive shuffle is typical of how traditional media companies are restructuring to compete in the creator economy.
The relocation demonstrates a practical reality: companies seeking the next major format need direct access to where creators operate.
