Bruce Springsteen returned to his hometown on Friday for the second and final night of Music America: The Songs that Shaped Us at the OceanFirst Bank Center in Monmouth, New Jersey.
The Boss appeared throughout the night for a series of duets, opening with Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock" and "Burnin Love." Later, Springsteen sang Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released" with Sheryl Crow — the first time he has performed the song from Dylan's 1967 Basement Tapes sessions.
Springsteen joined Gary Clark Jr. for Bobby Blue Bland's "Further Up The Road." After Public Enemy's set, he joked: "Man, you can't come on after Public Enemy. Forget it. Jesus is coming back, he ain't coming back after Public Enemy."
The finale brought Springsteen back onstage with Jon Bon Jovi, Jackson Browne, and Public Enemy for Eddie Floyd's "Raise Your Hand," a Springsteen live staple since the 1970s. The bill also included Nils Lofgren, Darlene Love, and Gary Clark Jr., with Little Steven's Disciples of Souls as the house band.
The second evening focused on Elvis, Chuck Berry, and Dion DiMucci, while the first night honored Robert Johnson, Hank Williams, and Woody Guthrie. The concerts opened the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music.
