Carly Simon is officially back with her first album in nearly two decades.

The singer-songwriter, 82, is releasing Comes in Waves on August 14. The lead single, 'Howl,' suggests this is more than a nostalgia project.

The track opens with Simon's lyrics building from anger to forgiveness: Howl like the wind/Roar like the river/Wail like the rain/Cry, shout, and shiver. The chorus is direct and propulsive.

"Howl lives in that space between betrayal and forgiveness, where anger has to be voiced before it can be released," Simon said in a statement.

The album was recorded at Simon's Martha's Vineyard studio with producer Paul Samwell-Smith, who worked with Simon in the Seventies, alongside Frank Filipetti. Her children Sally and Ben Taylor appear on the record. Sally also created the album artwork.

The nine original tracks explore themes of reset and resilience. The album title comes from another track, 'Slowly.' Simon also revisited a couple of earlier songs for new versions.

This is Simon's first release since her 2022 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
