Disney+ is launching a localized version of the strategy game Werewolves in the Netherlands. According to Deadline, the streaming giant has partnered with Dutch broadcaster NPO to produce the show.
The Dutch adaptation, titled Wolven: Het Spel Van List En Bedrog (which translates to "Wolves: The Game of Deception and Cunning"), is based on the board game Werewolves.
Set in a remote forest village, the show brings together a group of strangers known as Villagers who compete in a battle of wits and lies. The format resembles The Traitors, grounded in the classic board game that has been a party favourite for years.
The board game has spawned countless adaptations worldwide. Disney+ is converting the tabletop game into streaming content, where players must identify who is lying.
This is Disney+'s latest entry into unscripted competition programming. The partnership with NPO reflects the streamer's strategy of creating region-specific content for local audiences.
Details on cast, premiere date, and exact gameplay mechanics remain unannounced. Given the source material's popularity and the format's appeal on streaming platforms, the Dutch version could gain significant viewership.
Fans of psychological game shows and international competition formats are awaiting more information about the Dutch adaptation.
