DoorDash announced Thursday that it's launching Ask DoorDash, a new AI chatbot that lets you order food, groceries, and restaurant reservations using plain English instead of clicking through menus.

Instead of knowing exactly what you want, you describe it. "I'm in the mood for a filling dinner for my family of 4"? The app surfaces restaurants with an explanation of why they match your request. Ask for "kid-friendly vegetarian spots with mild options" and it narrows the results immediately.

The grocery shopping feature works differently. Snap a photo of a recipe or cookbook page, and Ask DoorDash automatically adds all the ingredients—with correct quantities—to your cart. It prompts you to confirm staples you already have (like butter and sugar) so you avoid buying duplicates.

The chatbot also handles reservations. You can ask for "a table for two downtown for a date-night dinner around 8 PM" and see what's available instantly.

DoorDash joins Uber Eats, which launched its own AI Cart Assistant in February, and Instacart, which rolled out a shopping assistant for grocers. Every major player is betting that conversational AI will reshape how people order food and groceries.

Ask DoorDash is rolling out now on iOS in select regions for restaurant search and grocery shopping, with nationwide expansion coming in the coming weeks.
