Plot twist that'll make Tree Hill fans lose it: Gavin DeGraw, the man behind one of TV's most iconic theme songs, has never watched One Tree Hill.

The "I Don't Want to Be" singer came clean at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction ceremony on June 11 in New York, telling E! News: "I love the show, but I've never seen the show." He added: "I don't watch TV."

DeGraw wrote the theme for the show that starred Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton Morgan, and Bethany Joy Lenz without ever watching it himself.

He insisted he wasn't being dismissive. "I love the people on the show, but I've never seen it. Is that bad of me?" he asked. "I hear the show is amazing. It's been great to me—and the fans have been amazing to me."

How did "I Don't Want to Be" become the theme? DeGraw was performing in NYC bars and clubs when someone called and offered to use his song on a TV show. His response: "Well, I don't watch TV. And I still don't watch TV."

The 49-year-old is focused on music and legacy. He recently re-recorded his debut album Chariot for its 20th anniversary, inspired by Taylor Swift's masters re-recording project.

One Tree Hill's theme song came from an artist who never saw a single episode.
