After more than two decades of being linked to one of cinema's most iconic horror franchises, Heather Donahue is drawing a hard line: she's out.

The actress—who now goes by her married name, Rei Hance—has made clear she won't be returning for the Blair Witch reimagining currently in development at Lionsgate and Blumhouse. According to Deadline, Donahue explained her decision with directness, telling the publication that "preserving my autonomy mattered more" than cashing in on nostalgia.

Donahue has spent 25-plus years as the face of the franchise. But she's moving on.

"I'm not participating," she said flatly. Sources suggest the reboot will move forward with an entirely new cast, which raises the question of whether Blair Witch can work without its original lead.

Donahue's stance reflects a pattern among legacy horror icons reclaiming their narratives. She's protecting her peace after spending three decades defined by a shaky-cam found-footage film.

As studios pursue reboots and reimaginings, Donahue is choosing to exit. Whether the franchise succeeds without her remains unclear, but she has made her position final.
