Paramount+ has acquired Cop Land, a series adaptation of James Mangold's 1997 crime drama. According to Deadline, the streamer secured the project in a competitive deal.
The series comes from Paramount Television Studios and Miramax Television, with Mangold—the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind The Art of Racing in the Rain and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny—attached to develop the limited series.
The original 1997 film starred Sylvester Stallone, Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, and Michael Rapaport in a story about NYPD officers moonlighting as security guards. The streaming adaptation will explore that universe with serialized storytelling.
Paramount+ is banking on Mangold's name and the franchise appeal. The streamer has had success with crime dramas like MobLand and Landman, adding another entry to a slate that competes directly with Netflix, HBO Max, and Apple TV+.
Mangold has worked across indie character work and blockbuster spectacle. A return to Cop Land's corrupt-cop milieu could suit a prestige television audience, though adapting a 1997 film for 2026 streaming presents its own challenges.
The project is in development. Casting announcements and a timeline are expected later this year.
