Kate Middleton is laying bare the emotional reality of her cancer battle—and it's not just about her.
Over a year after the Princess of Wales announced she was in remission, she's opening up about how "tough" the experience was for Prince William, their three children, and the rest of the family. In a video shared by Hello magazine, Kate visited a cancer patient celebrating the end of her own treatment and spoke about the ripple effect.
"I know it's as hard for the family and loved ones," Kate said. "I know how hard it was for the children and my parents." The moment shows royalty grappling with how to shield their kids while navigating their own crisis.
The 44-year-old, who announced her diagnosis in March 2024, shared that the cancer journey was "complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you." She also found meaning in it. The experience reminded her family to "be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved."
Prince William has been equally direct about parenting through the ordeal. During an October 2025 interview on The Reluctant Traveler, he revealed their approach: "We try to make sure we give them the security and the safety that they need," he explained. "We're a very open family, so we talk about the things that bother us, the things that trouble us."
Still, William acknowledged uncertainty. "You never quite know the knock-on effects it can have," he said, before emphasizing their family's principle: "It's just important to be there for each other, and reassure the children that everything is okay."
The royal couple's honesty is striking. Just last month, William spoke about Kate's resilience, calling himself "very, very proud" of her recovery. "She's been amazing," he told Heart Breakfast. "She's been through so much in the last couple of years." The prince even noted Kate was thrilled about their recent Italian trip—a sign that life is moving forward.
