Donald Trump has confirmed he will attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden on Monday, where the New York Knicks will face the San Antonio Spurs.
Speaking from the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump stated his allegiances. "I've been a Knicks fan for a long time, and I'm also a Jim Dolan fan," he said, referring to the team's owner. "He has invited me, I'm going."
When asked if he would attend Game 4 later in the week, Trump suggested he might. "Maybe I'll do both," the president said.
Trump watched the opening game on Wednesday night from the White House, though his viewing was interrupted. "I talk to generals all night long now," he explained, saying he missed portions of the game. He did see the finish, when the Knicks erased a large deficit to win Game 1 in San Antonio. Trump praised the performance as "dominant" and "really amazing."
The president also complimented San Antonio's star player. "Wemby's a great player. He's going to be a great player and he is already a great player," Trump said of Victor Wembanyama.
Security planning is underway for Trump's courtside appearance at MSG. Rolling Stone reports the matchup is drawing significant attention.
