Prime Video has ordered three brand new animated series through the freshly minted GenAI Creators' Fund, a joint venture between Amazon Web Services and Amazon MGM Studios.
BuzzFeed Studios is producing Cupcake & Friends. Albie Hecht, who built Nickelodeon's animation division, is Chief Content Officer at pocket.watch and is steering Love, Diana Music Hunters. The third series, Punky Duck, completes the initial slate.
Amazon is betting that AI-generated animation can deliver mainstream, platform-wide content rather than experimental projects. The GenAI Creators' Fund is designed to finance creators who use AI tools in production.
For BuzzFeed Studios and pocket.watch, these orders represent validation of their approach to content creation. BuzzFeed has been expanding into long-form programming. Albie Hecht's track record from Nickelodeon carries weight in the industry.
The three series are expected to arrive on Prime Video within months. AI production is designed to compress timelines compared to traditional animation.
