Amazon MGM Studios' Project Hail Mary is heading to MGM+, not Prime Video, with a June 18 streaming date after a 90-day theatrical window.
The sci-fi film is skipping Prime Video entirely. Instead, Amazon is routing it through MGM+, its premium tier service. The move signals a shift in strategy: the company is treating the title as a marquee release for paid subscribers rather than bundling it with ads on Prime.
Amazon has a history of rushing films to Prime Video. Saltburn and Red One both arrived within weeks of their theatrical debuts. Project Hail Mary's extended window represents a departure from that pattern.
The company is also respecting the theatrical window itself. A 90-day holdback aligns with traditional Hollywood releases, a rarity for Amazon Studios in recent years.
Industry observers view the decision as a signal that Amazon is taking both theatrical releases and premium streaming seriously. The film, currently the third-highest grossing film of its release period, will be available only on MGM+ starting June 18.
