Rob Lowe has confirmed that a St. Elmo's Fire sequel script is in active development.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the six-time Golden Globe nominee revealed that the creative team is working on a script for the follow-up to the 1985 film. "I'm trying to get it done," Lowe said about the project. The actor played Billy Hicks in the original ensemble drama and has previously expressed interest in reviving the franchise.

The team is focused on getting the script right. With an iconic cast and a beloved legacy to protect, Lowe and the others involved are not rushing the process.

St. Elmo's Fire launched the careers of a generation of actors and became a defining film of the 1980s. The original ensemble cast included Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, Andrew McCarthy, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, and Andie MacDowell alongside Lowe. Whether all of them would return for a sequel remains unclear.

Fans who grew up with the original are imagining what these characters would be doing decades later. The nostalgia factor could make this a significant event if it reaches completion.
