Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson performed the entire seven-part "2112" on night two of their Fifty Something Tour at Los Angeles Kia Forum on Tuesday, a full 20-minute journey through the 1976 mini-rock-opera complete with pyro, marking the first time they've performed the entire track since 1997.
Night one had already featured a partial version. Night two brought the full performance, sending fans online into immediate discussion.
"2112" occupies an entire side of Rush's iconic 1976 album and is among the band's most recognized works. Lee and Lifeson's commitment to all seven sections demonstrated they are taking the tour seriously.
The duo promised to keep the setlist fresh throughout their Fifty Something Tour. After nearly 30 years without a complete live performance of "2112," their decision to revive it in full delivered the kind of moment that will be discussed and rewatched for years.
For longtime Rush devotees who had not heard the full "2112" performed live in three decades, Tuesday night in LA was a significant show.
